Is garbage service mandatory?

Yes – By Piedmont Municipal code, all occupied premises are required to have weekly waste collection service.
Can I get an exemption from service?

Where do I place my carts for curbside service?

Can I keep my own carts and not use yours?

Yes, for back yard service only. Please call our customer service department to arrange to use your own carts. Replacements of customer containers are the customer’s responsibility. Customers my change to RSS provided carts at any time.
If I use my own can what size can I purchase?

Are yard waste overage stickers still available?

Green waste collection is unlimited. Additional organics carts are available upon request. For occasional green waste overage, set out on top or next to the organics cart on your regular collection day, bio-degradable compostable bags are available at no additional charge. (Backyard limit of 4 bags per week; 5 or more bags are collected for curbside collection)
Where can I purchase Bio-degradable compostable bags?

Bio-bags are available at some local retail outlets. They can be picked up at our office located at 3260 Blume Dr. suite 100 in Richmond or by mail order (postage and applicable fees will apply). Please call 800-320-8077.
How can the bio-degradable compostable bags be used?

Occasionally. Place recyclables in paper bags only. Place green waste in bio-degradable compostable bags only. Additional carts are available at no extra cost for regular recycling and green waste extras.
Can I place out extra recycling or green waste?

Yes, occasional basis only. Recycling placed in a paper bags only. Green waste placed in bio-degradable compostable bags only (Limit 4 bags per week for backyard collection; 5 or more bags collected curbside).

How many cleanups do I get a year?

Four (4) on call bulky items pickups (up to a total 20 cubic yards per year; maximum of 10 yards per clean-up) annually, including e-waste and greenwaste cleanups.

Will my service be suspended or stopped for non payment?

No. Service will be downgraded to 20-gallon garbage only. Owners may be liable for nuisance abatement. Mechanics liens for unpaid waste collection service charges may be placed against benefiting properties.
Will I be billed for stolen carts?

No, if due to negligence it will be replaced 1 time during the life of the contract.
Am I allowed to stop my service for vacation?

Yes, minimum of one (1) month or more. A re-start fee of $25.00 applies.

Can I pay my bill in advance?

Yes. In exchange for voluntary advance payment for one (1) year of service, single-family households will receive the 12th month of service without charge. For purposes of this pre-payment discount, the ”service year” is considered to run from July1 though June 30. For pre-payment made after July 30, the pre-payment discount will be prorated though June 30.
If I fail to put my carts curbside will I be billed?

If containers are not available for service on collection day, customers have the option to wait until the next week for pick-up or to request a “call back” pick-up. Call-back service is subject to an additional charge. Carts not available for collection on time are not eligible for credit.
Will I be billed for overloaded carts?

When filled, materials should not extend beyond the container rim and the lid should fit properly when closed. The weight of the containers should not exceed the allowable limit indicated on the cart. If the cart is too full for the lid to close properly, or the waste is compacted, an extra fee will be charged.
Will I be billed for contaminated Greeenwaste and Recycling?

Contaminated organics or recycling carts are subject to return trip collection and waste (garbage) disposal charges.
Will I be able to set up service under the renter’s name?
FAQs
Owners or their designated representatives or agents (including managers and tenants) may subscribe for solid waste collection service. It is RSS policy to bill owners unless an agent (property manager, tenant or other representative) has been designated and authorized in writing to receive billings and other information. Unpaid collection service charges may be made a lien against the benefiting property, and owners may be liable for costs of nuisance abatement associated with accumulated waste. To protect property interests and prevent the blight of accumulated waste, owners are strongly encouraged to arrange for waste collection services at their rental properties.
